Streets glow with shimmering Christmas lights, and as the holiday draws near, a warm, festive spirit seems to rise from every corner. Christmas in Berlin isn’t just a season—it’s an atmosphere. Here are six Christmas highlights in Berlin that capture these magical vibes and shouldn’t be missed.

Hundreds of Santas riding through Berlin

One of Berlin’s most remarkable Christmas traditions is once again underway. Hundreds of Santa Clauses on scooters and motorbikes, accompanied by reindeer and angels, will be riding through Berlin and giving out presents to people in need.
The participating Santas distribute presents based on wish lists, focusing primarily on warm clothing and essential hygiene items. This uniquely Berlin holiday parade brings festive spirit and charitable goodwill to several districts, with the route spanning Tempelhof, Pankow, Charlottenburg, and Lankwitz. A magical Santa Claus parade that can only happen in Berlin.

Flying Santa

One of the Christmas highlights in Berlin is definitely the Flying Santa with his reindeer. Every evening, he flies above the Christmas market at Rotes Rathaus, right next to Alexanderplatz. Up in the sky, Santa waves to the crowd, and shares stories about Berlin. For a moment, the whole city feels like a Christmas movie!

Weihnachten in Tierpark: A Christmas fairy tale in Berlin

Each winter, Tierpark Berlin is transformed into a sparkling wonderland as Christmas at the Tierpark returns. Along a roughly 2-kilometer circular route, more than 30 artistic light installations illuminate trees, pathways, and water features, turning the landscaped park and the historic Friedrichsfelde Palace into a glowing winter spectacle.

The experience is enhanced by specially designed soundscapes that accompany visitors throughout the trail, creating an immersive experience. For many Berliners, it has become a staple of the city’s holiday season as it combines nature, art, and Christmas spirit.

The most beautiful street in Berlin – Ku’damm

Ku’damm is without a doubt the most beautiful street to wander along during the Christmas season. Nowhere else in Berlin is illuminated so magically. I recommend taking a walk around 20:00–20:30, when most shops are closed and the street is quiet. That way, you can fully enjoy the romantic atmosphere.

From Wittenbergplatz all the way to Lehniner Platz, three kilometres of Ku’damm are aglow with Christmas lights. Among the highlights are the popular illuminated figures, including the nutcracker and the snowman.

A hidden Christmas market in Berlin only locals know

If you’re looking for a traditional, nostalgic, and truly magical Christmas market far from the usual crowds, this secret spot in Berlin might be exactly what you need. Hardly anyone knows about this Christmas spot in Berlin and those who do are mostly locals.
The Christmas market at Lehmanns Bauernhof exudes old-fashioned charm and a calm, almost timeless holiday atmosphere—it feels as if time has stopped here.
Full of cosy corners and candlelight, this place in Berlin feels filled to the brim with a Christmas spirit that’s hard to find elsewhere. Since the market is dedicated more to festive spirit than shopping, you’ll find here stalls offering Christmas-themed items such as handmade ornaments, scarves, candles, traditional German incense cones, soaps, and a few seasonal treats as well as mulled wine or hot chocolate for just 3€.
The historic flair of the market stems from one of Berlin’s oldest village churches and the surrounding buildings of the old village centre, lending the whole place a unique, countryside-like charm in winter.

Christmas market at Schloss Charlottenburg

Schloss Charlottenburg offers one of Berlin’s most enchanting Christmas market experiences. As the market is set against the elegant façade of Charlottenburg Palace, it is a great tip for a romantic date with a peaceful Christmas atmosphere.
The palace grounds are beautifully illuminated, casting a warm glow over the baroque architecture and creating a fairy-tale setting. Visitors can stroll through charming wooden stalls offering traditional German treats, handcrafted gifts, and festive decorations, all accompanied by the scent of roasted almonds and mulled wine in the air.
Despite its popularity, the market maintains a relaxed and elegant atmosphere, making it perfect for those who want to enjoy Christmas magic without feeling overwhelmed. The Christmas market at Schloss Charlottenburg captures the spirit of the season in a uniquely romantic way.
